ClarkDietrich Engineering Group Wins Awards from CFSEI

Submitted by Mike Murzyn on

September 1, 2021 – The ClarkDietrich Engineering Group were the proud recipients of three awards from the Cold-Formed Steel Engineering Institute (CFSEI). The annual CFSEI Design Excellence and Creative Detail awards honors projects that exemplify excellence in the structural design of new or renovated structures utilizing cold-formed steel (CFS). Entries are judged on design creativity, technical innovation and overall product excellence in CFS utilization in the categories of: Residential/Hospitality, Municipal, and Commercial.

For the group’s work on the renovation of the Porsche dealership in Lincolnwood, Illinois, ClarkDietrich Engineering Group won 1st place in the Creative Design Awards. This project included new exterior cold-formed wall and soffit framing, as well as interior framing, all of which was designed by ClarkDietrich Engineering Services. The frameless glass aspect of the interior framing presented the biggest design challenge.

In the Commercial category, ClarkDietrich was recognized with a 2nd place award for the renovation of Arhaus Furniture’s existing mall tenant space in Oak Brook, Illinois. The project included unique exterior cold-formed wall framing conditions, including pilasters, “picture frame” style punched openings, and boxed headers supporting sunshades.

The ClarkDietrich Engineering Team also brought home an award in the Municipal category for its work on the Will County Courthouse in Joliet, Illinois—a $215 million, 10-story renovation project consisting primarily of exterior non-axial load-bearing curtain wall framing. A three-year construction effort, the courthouse opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in October 2020.
